Submissions

I am always pleased to meet new poets, picture book writers, and illustrators, and am always on the lookout for folks to feature on No Water River. You can be published or unpublished — makes no never mind as long as the poem is good!

So if you’re interested in being a guest poet or illustrator, just follow these simple steps:

Step 1

Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the site to see if you think you’d be a good fit. Watch some poetry videos to get an idea of how your potential video should look. Illustrators, take a look at the illustrator/artist interviews like this one and this one. Note that I will write a poem based on your art.

Step 2

Contact me through the online form. In your message, please direct me to your blog or website. As the form says, unless I’ve been mauled by a bear, I’ll get back to you within 24 hours with a yay or nay.*

Step 3

In the case of a yay, I will ask you to send me the poem(s) you are considering for your video. Once the poem is chosen, I will send you instructions on creating the video. Illustrators, we’ll decide on one of your pieces to highlight.

IMPORTANT

Please do not create a video and send it to me without first completing the steps above! I will not be able to look at unsolicited videos.

*Regarding yays and nays

If you are an established writer of verse or are unpublished but have obviously been practicing your poetry/rhyming craft for a good while, you’ll get a yay. If you are a writer — published or un — who does not generally write poetry or rhyme…we’ll talk. Please understand if you get a nay this time around.
